Lecture date: 27.04.2016, 3:30 pm
The starting point of the lecture is Pliny's anecdote about the rivalry between
the painter Apelles and Protogenem about who can lead
softer line. The lecture discusses the letter of Pliny's text and
along with her Pliny's further observations on the subject of famous Greek
painters and drawings. The aim is to find out what exactly consisted
art of fine lines, while watching his reactions
from the Renaissance to purely modern debate about art.
Final part talks about a possible relationship between the art of line and Pliny's description of the origin of painting.
