The art movement, or rather the generational effort of the artists who were born around 1909, has been intensively devoted to the art historian Karol Vaculík in the 50s. As he himself mentions, such a group can not voluntarily quit or enter it, it is something that can not be levied by the artists because a joint start to life has been given to them. An even more significant cultural and historical milestone became the year 1964, when an exhibition called "Generation 1909: The consciousness of the time" was created in the Slovak National Gallery and was prepared by Ľudmila Peterajová together with the mentioned K. Vaculík. The title of our exhibition, Generation 1909, therefore draws directly from these cultural and historical contexts.
When we talk about the generation around 1909, they are artists coming to the art scene around the 1930s, but these artists can not be said to be a complete group but as individuals and in every way.
We will present you works from the collections of Liptov Gallery P. Bohúňa and will be added to the collection of the City Gallery of the City of Bratislava.
