The exhibition Have No Fear of Modernism! opens on 14th December at the Bratislava Castle in the premises of the Historical Museum of SNM; it dedicates to the phenomenon of the School of Arts and Crafts in Bratislava (1928 – 1939). With the Exhibition, the Slovak Design Museum presents several years of its research — a follow-up of the work by the art historian Iva Mojžišová.
The School of Arts and Crafts in Bratislava (ŠUR or ŠUR-ka) belongs to the essentials of the Slovak modern history. Its importance reaches beyond our local territory since, in its era, it belonged to the most advanced art schools in Europe; it was compared to the German Bauhaus. With originals, replicas, era documents and their interpretations, the Exhibition presents the individual departments of the School and its pedagogues (Ľudovít Fulla, Mikuláš Galanda, Zdeněk Rossmann, Julie Horová, František Tröster, Jaromír Funke and others), together with the context of the First-Republic era and Bratislava Modernism.
The Exhibition's title refers to Josef Vydra's quote, the School's Director, saying: "Having no fear of Modernism, critically choosing and trying out all that is novel and conveying the results back to production became the principle of the whole teaching staff."

An extensive team of experts and a large number of institutions that provided originals of works, reproductions, and period documents collaborated on its preparation. Curated by: Katarína Bajcurová, Simona Bérešová, Vladimíra Büngerová, Viera Kleinová, Ľubomír Longauer, Klára Prešnajderová, Sonia de Puineuf, Maroš Schmidt, Zuzana Šidlíková. Concept by: Simona Bérešová, Klára Prešnajderová, Maroš Schmidt.
An attractive part of the Exhibition are replicas of the period, but lost works, or realisations according to period designs. They were realised by designers and companies in cooperation with the Slovak Design Museum's curators.
Organised by: Slovak Design Center / Slovak Design Museum.
Main Exhibition Partners: SNM – Museum of History and Slovak National Gallery.

Mária Rišková, the Director of the Slovak Design Center, adds and invites to the Exhibition: "Everyone interested in the identity of Slovakia and its place in an international context, relations between the culture and economy in the inter-war republic or the beginnings of many creative disciplines (graphic design, scenography, advertising, and others); should see the Exhibition. The School is an important chapter also in the history of schooling, and especially of art education, its history brings us closer to the personalities of art, design, industry, education, and science; influencing the intellectual environment of Slovakia of the 20th century. Finally, the Exhibition will amaze everyone interested in the works and artefacts of Modernism with their aesthetics still positively affecting the taste of a modern person."

The Exhibition catalogue is available, and on https://sur.scd.sk/, visitors can find the Exhibition's website.
