MOCAK (Museum of Contemporary Art in Cracow) presents Beat Streuli’s "Tamarama Surfers 01-24-01" in July and August, as part of the summer edition of Thursdays with the Collection. The work shows a group of surfers on Tamarama beach in Sydney. In the struggle to conquer the elements, having fun and testing one’s physical prowess are rolled into one. The surfers emerge momentarily, only to be instantly pushed back under the water.
Beat Streuli – photography, installation, video. The artist is best known for his shots capturing passers-by on their daily routes. He portrays city dwellers around the world. He picks out from the crowd people who catch his eye, with a special interest focusing on the moment when the mask designed for others slips and the authentic visage appears. As the background for his depictions, Beat Streuli uses usually the dynamics of contemporary metropolises.
The screenings take place throughout the day during the Museum’s opening hours: 11 am – 9 pm. Admission to the MOCAK Collection exhibitions is free of charge on Thursday. Viewings will be also available every Thursday throughout May and June between 8 pm and 8.15 pm as a live stream on the Museum’s YouTube channel. You can also see the video on MOCAK Instagram TV @mocak_krakow on the same days from 7 pm.
